While the methodology and planning are widely known among academics and theoreticians, some of the terms used are too technical for others.

An attempt has, therefore, been made in this volume to select 400 more frequently used terms and give their meaning in simple English. The volume will be useful not only to officials but also to college and university students. This glossary contains 400 terms in regional planning and deve- lopment, arranged in alphabetical order. Some of the terms have been omitted to avoid duplication with D.V. Ramana, Glossary of Some Terms Used in Development and Planning, Bangkok : UN Asian Development Institute, 1977. This present work is done in connection with the Workshop on Population Planning and Area Development, 1978, to be organized by UNAPDI.Because of its eclectic nature, the terms in regional planning are difficult to define precisely.

Some of the terms are even used in different senses. This glossary is the result of adaptation of the meanings of terms as used in the basic texts in this field. Being a glossary, it is not possible to give all the credit where it is due. However, the following names should at least be mentioned : Walter Isard, Edgar M. Hoover, and Harry W. Richardson. The compiler is, however, responsible for any errors or misinterpretationsFor an author bio, photo and a sample read, visit www.abhinavexports.tradeindia.com
